On December 4th, agriBORA proudly unveiled agriGHALA, a groundbreaking solution set to transform how farmers store, track, sell, and finance their crops. The grand launch took place at Vishva Business Park, Kipkaren, Eldoret, with the Uasin Gishu Governor, H.E. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, as the Guest of Honor. The event brought together key players across the agricultural value chain, fostering collaboration and innovation for the benefit of farmers across Kenya.
A Visionary Outlook for Agriculture 🌟
Governor Chelilim praised Kuona Mbele agriHUB, a farmer organization committed to leveraging technology to grow and digitize their operations. He underscored the importance of agriGHALA as a solution to the persistent challenge of post-harvest losses due to inadequate storage. With agriGHALA, farmers can now store their produce securely and strategically sell it when prices peak, breaking free from the exploitative grip of brokers. The Governor reaffirmed his administration's support for the initiative and encouraged farmer cooperatives to embrace this opportunity fully.
Empowering Farmers Through the Warehouse Receipt System 📈
Felicity Biriri, Chairperson of the Warehouse Receipt System Council, highlighted the critical role of price discovery enabled by agriGHALA. Farmers can now wait for optimal market conditions or participate in modern platforms like the commodity exchange and futures market. This ensures they get maximum value for their hard work, transforming agriculture into a profitable and sustainable venture.
Technology as a Catalyst for Change 💻
agriBORA’s CEO, Kizito Odhiambo, emphasized the pivotal role of technology in enabling farmers to stay connected to market opportunities without physical constraints. Through digitized processes, such as real-time commodity exchanges, farmers can liquidate their stored produce efficiently. Martha Cheruto, County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, Cooperatives, and Enterprise Development.
