At agriBORA, our commitment to empowering farmers and agribusinesses goes beyond technology—it’s about creating sustainable growth and building strong partnerships. Recently, alongside the Agri Jobs 4 Youth (GIZ Kisumu) team, we visited two of our Farmer Service Centers (FSCs) in Siaya County, where we had the opportunity to welcome Sharlene Ruto to one of our dynamic demonstration sites.
This site, managed by Belinda Owino—an FSC operator from Sidindi, Siaya County—is a thriving hub of agricultural innovation. Belinda, who was onboarded as part of agriBORA’s Cohort 2, has established demonstration sites featuring various agribusiness models, including:
- Black Soldier Fly farming for alternative poultry feed.
- Poultry farming, providing high-quality eggs and meat.
- Apiculture (beekeeping), promoting pollination and honey production.
- Aquaculture, a sustainable approach to fish farming.
During the visit, Julia from Agri Jobs 4 Youth (AJ4Y) provided a detailed briefing on the initiative’s work, which currently supports 67 FSCs through targeted capacity building and market linkage support. This session also brought together representatives from AJ4Y and the Siaya County Government, creating a platform for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
The visit was followed by a successful Field Day at Belinda’s site, where eight FSCs showcased a diverse range of value-added products and services. These interactions highlighted the incredible potential of agribusiness in our communities, showcasing how innovation can drive sustainable growth.
